Balsam Fir, a North American species of fir, has long been used for its remarkable healing properties. Native Americans used it to treat many ailments. For topical problems like cuts, sores, and burns they applied it in the form of a plaster or ointment. They also brewed it in a tea to treat colds and burned it to use the smoke for respiratory problems. In other forms, they used it to treat headaches, urinary tract infections, and rheumatism.
Many believe that the Balm of Gilead mentioned in the Bible is none other than Balsam Fir. Fir is mentioned several times in the Bible, including in 2 Samuel 6:5 and 1 Kings 5:8, 10. Medieval healers used this plant for a variety of ailments and believed it to be very powerful. With the plethora of applications, Balsam Fir is undoubtedly a versatile and effective addition to our essential oil series.
Nowadays, Balsam Fir essential oil is a great option for relieving stress, alleviating muscle soreness, and treating bronchitis. Some of its uses include decongestant, emollient, stimulant, and laxative. You can apply it topically to Vitaflex points or problem muscles. You can also ingest it as a supplement, however it is not recommended for ingestion for children under 6. For lung ailments, add a few drops to a steaming bowl of water and inhale the steam directly. You can also diffuse it! The smell is soothing and helps to calm the nerves and relieve stress.
When using this essential oil, dilute it 50:50 with high-grade olive or coconut oil. If you are pregnant, please consult your doctor before using.
